Sakartvelo Photo Project…

Sakartvelo Photo Project:Georgian

“Photography is the beauty of life, captured”…

As a part of my current job in the little known country of Sakartvelo (also known as Georgia) and through my organization, Big Planet…Small World, I will be leading an exciting photography project with local teenagers from this vibrant, beautiful country that straddles the borders of Europe and Asia. Photography is the only language that can be understood anywhere in the world and it, somehow, makes our planet seem a little bit smaller. Photography can give you a window into the world captured by the camera lens and sometimes it gives you a view of the heart and soul of the person behind the camera, as well. I believe that learning photography is a way to foster creativity and connection. I want the incredible, dynamic youth of Georgia to show us the world through their eyes, and to also gain skills and confidence. Through photography and digital media education, my students will show us what Georgia looks like from their unique point of view and they will become the story-tellers for their country. This project will teach students the basics of documentary photography and empower them to communicate visually and become powerful voices for their community. As a way to celebrate and share their stories, the program will culminate with two exhibitions of their work in the capital cities of Tbilisi, Georgia and Washington, D.C., USA.

  1. Thank you to everyone that made this such a huge success. The exhibition in Tbilisi was filled with so much lovely energy and pride. In the end, the students captured some amazing photos… but they also captured my heart.
